Ottawa Language Access (OLA) is constantly looking to expand its team of professional language interpreters. We have two hiring rounds per year: spring and fall. Please note the Spring 2024 round has now closed.
FALL 2024
We will be seeking interpreters in the following languages:
French to Arabic and Langue des signes québécoise (LSQ)*.
English to American Sign Language (ASL)*, Bengali, Burmese, Cambodian (Khmer), Croatian, Czech, Deaf Interpretation*, Greek, Hausa, Inuktitut, Korean, Kurdish (Kurmanji and Sorani), Rohingya, Romanian, Somali, Tagalog, Tamil, Thai, and Tigrinya.
*Interpreters for signed languages must have current standing with CASLI.
We are proud of our ability to hire, train, and employ health interpreters, many of whom are newcomers themselves and who have a background in health care. These interpreters play a vital role and are part of the healthcare team. Our interpreters are passionate about what they do and have expressed how rewarding it is for them to work with OLA.
Our ideal language interpreter:
- Wants to support clients overcome language barriers in the health and social services sector;
- Is passionate about working with vulnerable populations;
- Is fluent in English and one or more languages listed above;
- Has patience and consideration towards clients;
- Has obtained a high school degree or higher from any country;
- Can obtain a clear Ottawa Police record check for vulnerable populations;
- Is able and willing to undergo rigorous training and examination to become a certified interpreter (if not already one);
- Is able and willing to do casual work remotely and in-person; and
- Is based in Ottawa, Ontario.
